Little Jimmy's Top Ten Sci-Fi Movies (and why):
  1: Star Wars
Obviously, because this is a Lucasarts site, and the great bearded Jedi holds more sway than even Bill Gates hereabouts. Also, because it introduced a new standard in the cinema special effects field.
 2: Strange Days
An interesting look at the concept of biological and technological integration, and its effects on a modern society. Also a good look at the Y2K hysteria, which we are quickly forgetting.
 3: The Fifth Element
I don't care what anyone says, I thought it was a very artful movie, well-crafted. A good example of what can be done with computer generated effects.
4: Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan
Still the best Star trek movie in my opinion. It was also the first time we got to see the Enterprise all shot up.
 5: Total Recall
Simply a well-written story (by Phillip K. ****) that makes good use of sci-fi principles. The ultimate 'where are you now?' movie.
 6: Independence Day
It's about time they did an alien invasion movie that wasn't stupid.
 7: Highlander
Not a sci-fi film at all, but sci-fi people all seem to like it. The Highlander films and the teevee series that followed were an excellent demonstration of different sword types and how they were used in hand-to-hand combat.
 8: Starship Troopers
Just a lot of good, clean violence. Everyone likes gunfire and explosions.

 9: Solar Crisis
A fairly unknown film about a mission to stop a solar flare from frying the Earth. Well worth tracking down.
10: Back to the Future 2
The best of the BTTF movies, and the one that actually tells most of the story. These three films taken together are a wonderful example of time travel sci-fi.
