I am having problems getting anything multiplayer to work.

when I try to join an online game, it loads the map, models etc, then dumps me to the desktop with a bright washed out video mode.

when I try to create a server so I can beat up some bots... it dumps me to the desktop with washed out video.

I renamed my cfg in case I borked a setting, causing jk2 to create a new default one, with the same problem.

Is anyone else seeing this?
note: single player works perfectly!
